Sons Of Lioth: Large hadron collider spider

30/07/13  ||  Cobal

If many of us have stopped listening to power metal at all, it is probably due to the way it has —not— evolved in time. It’s all about cheap epicness and movie-like production these days. Lucky me, that’s so not the case of this album. Quite on the contrary, this short EP contains 5 fun, catchy and non-pretentious songs that made my day after putting off this comment for quite a few days. In fact, it is the strong bounds these Belgians have to hard-rock and more traditional heavy metal that makes “Large hadron collider spider” relevant at all.

Now, one distinctive staple of the archetypical power metal sound has been the high pitched super well sung vocals. There’s a point when so much exquisite almost operatic notes are… too much, actually. Again going against the flow, whoever sings here rather goes for a more alcoholic but still pretty professional kind of singing, if you know what I mean.

8/10: I could start listening to some power metal releases again, after all.
